Now That Arsene Wenger is Staying, What Next?

The question which had seemed like it would take eternal to get an answer for has finally been answered after Arsene Wenger signed a two-year contract extension at Arsenal last month.

There had been unending speculations surrounding the future of the 67-year-old at the North London club in the last one year and with the Frenchman reaching the end of his contract, there were numerous calls, particularly from the fans, for his resignation.

But the club hierarchy has decided to pitch their tent with the man that brought the club into limelight, even though he has struggled in recent seasons to keep them at the top.

Winning the FA Cup, their third in four seasons, didn’t seem to have placated the irated fans who are visibly frustrated with the club’s dwindle fortunes.

But their cry, flying plane-carrying banners and placards during matches have only ended on a sad note for them- that is, the man they desperately want to see his back at the Emirates Stadium will continue
in his position for another two seasons.

But the question Wenger’s extension has popped up is what effect will it have on the club?

Missing out on next season’s Champions League – their first twenty years- and finishing below their arch rivals Tottenham were bitter pills for the Gooners to swallow.

Arsenal always start their season on a high note but they do stumble mid-way through the season. Wenger needs to justify his contract extension by making Arsenal competitive again, especially in the
Premier League which they last won in 2004. And that should start with getting quality players and there are reports of £100M war-chest made available for him.

The FA Cup holders has been linked with a number of top players, including Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe but it is left for Wenger to act fast and warp up necessary signings.

They have reportedly secure the signature of Sead Kolasinac who is a good addition to their defence but more recruitments are still needed.
