Alvaro Morata could be set for a sensational switch to Manchester United this summer. The 24-year-old Real Madrid forward has struggled for game time this season under Zinedine Zidane, and has set his sights on a move out of the Santiago Bernabeu as he wants to be playing regularly next season, so as to be considered for selection for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
The striker has been rumoured to be close to a move to AC Milan but it seems United have made a late bid to sign him up.
According to OKDiario via thepeoplesperson, Morata has been convinced to join the Old Trafford project according to manager, Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese worked with the youngster at Madrid in the talk end of his managerial career there, and has been impressed with the development the player has shown in recent years. Despite being second fiddle for much of this campaign, Morata has still managed to score an impressive 20 goals for Los Blancos, who have won La LIga and are in the Champions League Final.
He had been set for a £52 move to AC Milan after the Final, with personal terms rumoured to be agreed, but with United’s interest, a move now to Manchester could be a reality.
Mourinho is looking at attacking reinforcements for next season as his side suffered for their over reliance on Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The charismatic Swede was superb in his first season in England, scoring 28 times. Morata is a classy traditional centre forward, who combines pace, deadly finishing and finesse all rolled into one. He is young and still has potential to become one of the very best.
