First summer signing? Source confirms Man United are close in prolific midfielder, club eyeing replacement

According to the Manchester Evening news, Nemanja Matic is seemingly close to a shocking move to Manchester United.

The 28-year-old Serbian midfielder is keen on a reunion with former manager, Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is in the market for a recognized defensive midfielder, which will allow Paul Pogba the platform to express himself, and has set sights on Matic, who is willing to leave Stamford Bridge, as he doesn’t  feel he has the 100% trust of manager, Antonio Conte.

Chelsea are looking at the prospect of signing players such as Corentin Tolisso and Tiemoue Bakayoko, which could be the end of Matic’ s stay at Stamford Bridge, as the former Juventus manager is keen on players that fits his workaholic and versatility philosophy.

Matic was signed by Jose Mourinho in the winter of 2014, and his first tasks in a Chelsea shirt was to marshall a blistering Yaya Toure in the 1-0 away victory for Chelsea against Manchester City back in January 2014, a game which brought the attention of the world to his abilities.

Manchester United struggled to be consistent in the league last season, finishing sixth, but won the Europa League and EFL cup. The former Real Madrid boss is keen on a reunion as he believes that a specialist anchorman is needed to offer the base and platform for the attacking players to flourish.

Matic is a defensive midfielder known for his tenacity, high tackling sucees rate and general combativeness. Since his second return to Chelsea in 2014, he has played 146 matches for the Stamford Bridge outfit, scoring six times and winning the League twice and EFL Cup.
