French midfielder N’Golo Kante has revealed the reason behind his switch to Chelsea from Leicester City last summer, despite the Foxes qualifying for the Champions League.
It is no doubt that the France international was instrumental to Chelsea’s triumph in the Premier League as he formed a formidable partnership with Nemanja Matic in the midfield. His working rate and
tackling ability as well as defensive duties on the pitch were excellent.
The defensive midfielder was a key member of the Claudio Rianeri’s led team that surprisingly won the Premier League title in 2015/2016 season but decided to swap the King’s Power Stadium for the Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2016/2017 season.
The 25-year-old secured a £34 million transfer to Chelsea following the arrival of Antonio Conte and also cemented his place in the first team as he helped the Blues to reclaim the Premier League title, winning it with different clubs consecutively.
Kante, who was also a target for Arsenal and other clubs, was named the PFA Player of the Year and the EA Sport claimed the previous summer signing unvieled why he signed for Chelsea.
“It was a very difficult decision,” Kante told EA Sports via Sportsreview.
“With Leicester, we won the league and had a very good season but I think for me, it was a step forward in my career to join Chelsea and I am happy to have joined the club.”
“We have had a very good season and I’m happy about that.”
He scored one and assisted one in 35 league appearances for Chelsea.
