Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Brighton on Sunday has them sitting in fifth place and three points behind London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The club’s draw looks destined to prevent a top-four finish as even a Tottenham Hotspur loss on the final day of the season would mean Arsenal need to win and overturn their rival’s superior goal difference.
With the offseason fast approaching, Unai Emery has some big decisions to make with his squad. Emery is reportedly set to have just £45 million to recruit new talent, so getting rid of these three players in the offseason could raise additional funds.
Shkodran Mustafi
Centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has been repeatedly criticised for his poor performances since arriving at the Emirates.
The defender has struggled to perform against top Premier League forwards with Arsenal conceding goals freely since his arrival.
Mustafi has played 30 times in the Premier League season as Arsenal have conceded 50 goals.
TransferMarkt lists Mustafi at a value of £27 million. Could Arsenal cash in on the defender and put their finances elsewhere.
Mohamed Elneny
Midfielder Mohamed Elneny has played just seven times in the Premier League this season for Arsenal. The arrival of Matteo Guendouzi has made Elneny almost irrelevant at the Emirates.
Elneny is on the fringes of the Arsenal team. He hasn’t played a full 90 minutes all season. His last appearance came against Crystal Palace in which the Gunners lost 3-2.
The defensive midfielder is rated at £9m, according to TransferMarkt.
Mesut Ozil
Mesut Ozil is a polarising figure at the Emirates. Is he the creative midfielder to lead them to trophy or a luxury player with no place in the Gunners XI?
Ozil has appeared in 23 league games scoring five goals and adding two assists. Fitness has been an issue this season, but it hasn’t helped that Ozil doesn’t fit into Emery’s attacking tactics.
The German is still worth a sizeable transfer fee and his £350,000-per-week salary could prevent a move away from the Emirates.
Ozil is under contract at Arsenal until 2021, but this offseason may be the best time to move him.
